Lecrae & for KING & COUNTRY Lead the GMA Dove Awards Nominees
Christian rapper Lecrae leads the pack of nominees for the 46th annual Dove Awards with seven nominations, including artist of the year, thanks to his chart-topping album, "Anomaly." The Gospel Music Association announced on Wednesday the nominees for the awards, which will be held on Oct. 13 in Nashville, Tennessee.
for KING & COUNTRY, the Australian duo of Joel and Luke Smallbone, received six nominations, the second most among all nominees. The Fervent Records duo also received nominations for Contemporary Christian Artist of the Year, Pop/Contemporary Song of the Year and Short Form Video of the Year for "Shoulders," Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year for RUN WILD. LIVE FREE. LOVE STRONG., and Rock/Contemporary Song of the Year for their feature on top nominee Lecrae's "Messengers."
"The Dove Awards continue to unite a community of creatives whose sole purpose is to offer hope through the arts. To stand alongside these diverse artists is a privilege worth celebrating. We truly are #bettertogether," the Smallbones said, echoing this year's Dove Awards theme.
Along with Artist of the Year, Fervent Records' Francesca Battistelli was nominated for Worship Song of the Year for "Holy Spirit." The song was the fastest rising No. 1 of her career, reaching the top of the charts in just 13 weeks.
"What an honor to be named among some of my favorite artists in the Artist of the Year category, and to be up for Worship Song of the Year is truly amazing," Battistelli said. "Bryan and Katie Torwalt wrote such an incredible song, and I'm honored to sing it."
NEEDTOBREATHE and Switchfoot received two nominations each in the Rock/Contemporary Album and Song of the Year categories and Curb Records' Selah had nominations in the Inspirational Song and Album of the Year categories.
