The Voice's Craig Wayne Boyd is Back with "I'll be Home For Christmas"
Winner of Season 7's The Voice and Christian Craig Wayne Boyd is back! On his own imprint Long Haul Records, he has released his brand new Christmas single, a cover of "I'll Be Home for Christmas." Nevertheless, Boyd's version isn't just a straitjacket version of Bing Crosby's original version. Rather, Boyd adds a country twist by ending the song with a quiet "Merry Christmas, y'all."
Since March, Boyd has been in the studios working on his first post-The Voice album. Before that, he was performing in Las Vegas, as the opening act of Rascal Flatts' Vegas Riot! residency. "Well, YALL, I waited until this morning to let you know, drumroll please ... I am starting in the studio to record my newest album, today!" he wrote in March. "It includes songs from great writers like Adam Craig, Anthony Smith, Arlis Albritton, Josh Helms, Trent Tomlinson and myself, Craig Wayne Boyd, to name a few!! Co-producing with my longtime friend and the GRAMMYs award winner Aaron Pearce!!!"
Moreover, ever since June, the singer has been engaged. He popped the question to his girlfriend, Taylor Borland on June 13. The duo kept their engagement a secret at first, but they made their big announcement at the end of August.
"She is the one that helps me get away from all of the craziness and keeps me grounded," Boyd tells Country Weekly. "I had thought of a lot of different ways of asking her to marry me, but I thought, what better place to do it than after a show, when we were just there hanging out with my band family in June. Of course, my fans are relentless, and they started doing some investigating, so we both thought it was time to officially announce it in August."
Boyd met Borland in December of 2014, just one day after being named the winner of The Voice, and even though they've had a whirlwind romance, even the singer's 3-year-old son approves.
Boyd is not only the winner of Season 7's The Voice, but over the course of the singing show, he charted 7 singles on Billboard's Country Songs Chart, with the highest entry being his soaring version of the Christian hymn "The Old Rugged Cross."
