Johnny Depp 'Black Mass' New Movie Release Date, Plot and Cast News with Adam Scott, Dakota Johnson & Kevin Bacon
Johnny Depp is currently working on the new movie Black Mass from director Scott Cooper. The new drama movie is about Boston-Irish crime boss Whitey Bulger (Depp), which is set for a 2015 release.
The film Black Mass (script by Jim Sheridan, Jez Butterworth, and Russell Gewirtz) is based on the 2001 book Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob written by Dick Lehr and Gerard O'Neill, and is said to be the "true story of Billy Bulger, Whitey Bulger, FBI agent John Connolly and the FBI's witness protection program that was created by J. Edgar Hoover."
Black Mass also stars Adam Scott, Joel Edgerton, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dakota Johnson, Juno Temple, Jesse Plemons, Kevin Bacon, Sienna Miller and Peter Sarsgaard.
Warner Bros. has set the release date for Black Mass to theaters on September 18, 2015.
Principal photography of the film began on May 19, 2014 in Boston.
Benedict Cumberbatch replaced Guy Pearce as Billy Bulger on May 22, 2014. On June 10, it was announced that Jeremy Strong would be starring the film, he'll be headed to Black Mass in July after finishing the filming of Selma. On June 14, James Russo joined the cast of the film to play Scott Garriola, an FBI agent, one of the who took down Bulger. On June 26, Kevin Bacon was added to the cast to play Charles McGuire, the FBI Special Agent in charge of the Boston field office and John Connelly's boss. On June 1, David Harbour was added to the cast of the film to star as John Morris, a corrupt FBI agent along with fellow FBI agent John Connolly.
