Johnny Manziel Rookie NFL Football Season 'He's Right Where He's Supposed To Be' Shares Cleveland Browns GM

Johnny Manziel played his third preseason game of his rookie season for the Cleveland Browns on Saturday night when they went up against the St. Louis Rams.

The era of letting rookies sit a year or two in the pros is a thing of the past now and fans and media expect rookies to come out and produce like that are 10 year veterans. Manziel certainly has the hype surrounding him as well that magnifies every move he makes on and off the field.

However, Browns GM Ray Farmer was able to put things into perspective. "I think he is right where he's supposed to be," Farmer shared with ESPN on Friday before the Browns' and Rams game on Saturday night. "I laugh because it's four weeks into his first training camp and everyone is waiting to see Steve Young run out the tunnel. I don't know where the reality in that lies."

As NFL fans know, Steve Young had a long road to even becoming a starter in the league. He spent two years in the USFL, two years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and four and a half years on the bench in San Francisco before taking over the starting job from Montana which ultimately led to his Hall of Fame career.

"It's like anything else," Farmer added. "If you're learning a foreign language, guess what, you're not going to go to Spain tomorrow and in four weeks feel like you're fluent in the language and just start talking. It just doesn't happen like that. You may be able to communicate, but not effectively."

Manziel also spoke about the possibility of a two quarterback situation for the Browns this year, "I feel like any way I can help contribute to this team, whether it's looking at a certain coverage, looking at something during the game, or getting in and having a certain package during the game, just anything that I can do to help this offense to win games -- that's the position I'm in and that's all I really want to do."

Manziel saw his first playing time against the Rams mid-way through the third quarter and led a drive to score a rushing town down running it in himself. He finished 10-of-15 passing for 85 yards and no turnovers in the 33-14 loss to the St. Louis Rams on Saturday night. He was also sacked by rookie defensive player Michael Sam twice.

The Browns has a short turn around as they play their last preseason game at home against the Bears on Thursday night.
