Christian Lewis Pays Homage to the "Beautiful Man:" An Exclusive Interview

christian lewis

Christian Lewis' "Genesis" album combines pop and modern rock with deep soul undertones and driving rhythms. The result is an aggressive musical portrait of a heart with an intense desire to search out the depths of God. With raw vocals and melodic guitar riffs, each song evokes a gut-wrenching cry for more. Incorporating a variety of styles, from R&B and alternative rock to contemporary Christian, the album pushes the limits on modern worship. From the soulful lyrics of "I Can't Handle It" to the intercessory cry of "Here We Are," Christian Lewis will usher you into a collision with the heartbeat of God.

We are so honored to catch up with Christian for this exclusive Hallels' interview.

Hallels:  Christian, thank you for doing this interview with us.  For our readers who may not be familiar with you yet, tell us a little about your journey.  How did you feel the call to sing and record your album "Genesis"?

Well, I was fortunate enough to grow up in an awesome youth church, I ran from God for a awhile but He eventually caught me.  I've always written music from early on in elementary school until now.  That has always been my main talent and passion. As I trusted Him in the small things, big things would become available.  Eventually, I was approached by someone to fund my entire record.  Crazy thing is, I had been praying for an open door like that. So that's how these collection of songs got recorded.  I didn't so much feel a call, i just got called out.

Hallels:  How would you describe your sound?

Soulful Rock and Blues-ish, just raw man.

Hallels:  Are there any artists you really admire that have helped shape your music?

Spiritually -Jason Upton and Mahalia Jackson is what I love- their music just feels right the best.Jason taught me to chill, while Mahalia reached in my body and pulled out my soul.Musically -others include Hendrix, Zepplin, Mayer, U2.

Hallels:  Let's talk about your album "Genesis."  Why did you entitle the record "Genesis"?

In 2009 I wrote the majority of the album during a season of my life when I was a full-time missionary at a state-side missions base. The themes I expound upon in the album are like my real start to understanding deep spiritual truths as a young man. Thus the name GENESIS.

Hallels:  One of the songs on the album that really impresses me is "Beautiful Man."  What is the inspiration behind this song?

Well, I really like the poetic language hidden within the bible.  If you read it carefully you will see a pattern when Jesus Christ is described.  Beautiful Man is a homage to all those written works within the bible that give so much clarity into what it's like to see a fully glorified God Man. One word comes to my mind- beautiful.

Hallels:  Are you currently touring in support of this album?  And if you are, what can our readers expect from seeing you live?

Yes I'm doing some dates and I'm not really good with expectations. Just come and see.

Hallels:  For our readers who would like to purchase your new album or/and find out more about you, where can they go?
