Thomas Dorsey Convention Heads South To Louisville, Kentucky
Gospel Music lovers from around the globe will make their way to the Galt House Hotel, in Louisville, Kentucky one of the southernmost northern cities in the US, for the 83rd annual National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses, Inc. (NCGCC) from August 6-13, 2016. The culmination of the life's work of Dr. Thomas A. Dorsey, the Father of Gospel Music, NCGCC is the oldest gospel music organization in the world and is led by National President, Dr. Marabeth E. Gentry, and Rev. Dr. Derrick E. Roberts, Chairman of the Board.
On Saturday, the convention begins with a day of service at Louisville's Wayside Christian Mission. This year, we have added an exciting new addition to the music service that includes fanfare, excitement and elegance to each evening. Gospel music kicks off on Saturday night, August 6th with a Youth Explosion featuring local and national youth groups. We continue on Sunday, August 7 with a tribute to our Founder featuring St. Stephen Combined Choirs, Bishop Larry Trotter and Sweet Holy Spirit and other artists. NCGCC is rolling out the red carpet at the Monday Night Musical Service and Awards Ceremony honoring local and NCGCC gospel writers, artists and contributors. The Louisville Gospel Choral Union will host the event starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Galt House and will feature Grammy and Stellar Award recording artist Bishop Marvin Sapp, The Canton Spirituals, Louisville's own Joshua Purcell and Courageous, Messengers for Christ and Jay and the Team. Tuesday evening's special guests include Tasha Page-Lockhart, Keith Pringle a cadre of St Louis' finest, including Dello Thedford and Shalom City of Peace and other guest choirs. Wednesday will feature our Alumni Chorale and special guests. On Thursday we will feature the Thomas A. Dorsey Mass Choir and the incomparable Grammy nominated Evangelist Beverly Crawford. Friday evening will close out the week with our dynamic Preteen and the Bishop Kenneth H. Moales Sr. Youth and Young Adult Department with special guest Kierra 'Kiki' Sheard.
In addition to music, the week will feature dynamic gospel preaching by Elder Kenneth Moales Jr, Bridgeport, CT; Dr. Kevin W. Cosby, Louisville, KY; Rev. Dr. Ronald L. Bobo Sr., St Louis, MO; Pastor Devin E. West, Jeffersonville, IN; Pastor Albert Morgan, Bridgeton, NJ. The week's events consist of daily classes and workshops in the Artelia Hutchins Training Institute and a free daily Camp for Senior Citizens in the Louisville, KY area from Monday through Friday that will include daily rehearsals, history about our great Convention and an opportunity to sing for our delegates.
