Darlene Zschech Talks About Writing "Beloved" with Leeland

Darlene Zschech

Darlene Zschech, former worship pastor of Hillsong Church, has just released her first worship album with her new church HopeUC. Here I Am Send Me, released via Integrity Music, is also Darlene's album after her bout with breast cancer.

"Worship pushes back the noise of life," explains Darlene, who along with her husband Mark, pastors Hope Unlimited Church in New South Wales, Australia. "In that place, we hear Him speak, we're made more like Him, we're satisfied in His presence, given the fruits of the Spirit. Over the years, I've had this sense that maybe this is really all about the Great Commission. Once He has our hearts, then He has our lives... worship has more to do with what comes from our lives, not just our mouths."

One of the songs on the album "Beloved" is a hightlight. "Beloved" a modern hymn of surrender co-written by Darlene with Leeland Mooring and Casey Moore, takes its cues from "When I Survey The Wondrous Cross" penned by 17th century hymn writer Isaac Watts. "Leeland had put it on his album, and it was beautiful. I wanted to record it but strip it back," says Darlene who recalls a sweet moment during the recording where the church began singing spontaneously as the team ended the song. "You hear the people start to respond... it's a really holy moment."

Darlene contines, ""Beloved" has been a beautiful song to be a part of.. trying to humbly wrap a melody around that picture of Jesus, laying down His life and saying, "not my will, but Yours Oh Lord" ... And Casey and Leeland are a dream to write with - I was so blessed that they were willing to write with me."

"It was in rehearsal for this song that our Hope UC team started singing 'When I survey'... again, being very aware as we worshiped of the sacrifice that Jesus paid for us all. Isaac Watts wrote and based this hymn on Galatians 6:14. "But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. The love the Father has for us blows me away continually, the way He calls us His Beloved, and continues to love us no matter what."

I see You kneeling in the garden as tears of love pour down / I hear You calling on the Father "Not my will but Yours be done" / I see You lifting up the broken / I see Your life poured out / I hear You praying on the mountain/ Father I will follow You / Jesus I will follow You
