Jesus Christ Superstar Tour 2014 Featuring Brandon Boyd, J.C Chasez & More Gets Cancelled
The highly anticipated 2014 Jesus Christ Superstar Tour featuring the star-studded cast of Brandon Boyd (Incubus), J.C. Chasez (NSYNC), Michelle Williams (Destiny's Child), Ben Forster and John Rotten Lydon (Sex Pistols) was shockingly cancelled on Friday. The US arena tour was scheduled to make 50 stops across the country this fall and it will not happen now.
Here was the official statement posted:
"Options Clause Entertainment LLC, an affiliate of S2BN Entertainment, announced today the cancellation of the Jesus Christ Superstar Arena Spectacular Tour including the previously announced show on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Madison Square Garden. All purchased tickets will be refunded. Tickets purchased online and via telephone will be automatically refunded. Tickets purchased from outlets/venue box office must be returned to that location for refund."
There were no specifics as to why the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's musical Jesus Christ Superstar, was cancelled, but it seemed to come as a shock to the cast members themselves as they took to social media after the announcement to share their displeasure.
Ben Forster, who was to play the role of Jesus Christ, took to twitter and wrote:
@thebenforster "My heart is broken. My beautiful talented cast and company I adore. This wonderful show & opportunity is over. I'm so sorry I am devastated."
"I am so devastated. I'm sorry to everyone who got tickets and flights..Who ever fucked it up I hate u . But #IforgiveU #imjesus..wellwas x"
J.C. Chasez, who was to play Pontius Pilate wrote simply:
@JCChasez: "When it rains it pours"
Jesus Christ Superstar has been going for over 40 years now and is described as "a timeless work set against the backdrop of an extraordinary and universally-known series of events but seen, unusually, through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. Tim Rice, who wrote the lyrics, was inspired by the Bob Dylan anthem 'With God On Our Side' which features Judas in its penultimate verse and is from Dylan's seminal 1964 album The Times They Are A-Changin'. As Tim says in his autobiography: "From a very young age I had wondered what I might have done in the situations in which Pontius Pilate and Judas Iscariot found themselves. How were they to know Jesus would be accorded divine status by millions and that they would as a result be condemned down the ages?"
