Highlights of the forthcoming Tekken 7 fighting game were presented by Katsuhiro Harada, Game Director and Chief Producer of the 'Tekken' franchise of Namco Bandai, at yesterday's Comic Con panel discussion in San Diego.

Speaking through a translator, he said the plot for Tekken 7 will have a "very detailed background story" and will include a conclusion to the Mishima clan saga. It will provide answers to issues that are hanging in the minds of fans, like why is Heihachi trying to kill his grandfather and why did he throw Kazuya off the cliff, what is the Devil Gene and how did it get into the Mishima gene pool, among others. He confirmed that Lars from Tekken 6 [Bloodline Rebellion] will be returning.

"We're still formulating the basic gameplay systems and polishing them," said Harada although he did reveal that Tekken 7 will carry one-on-one rather than team-based battles.

The highly anticipated Tekken 7 game was first unveiled on July 13 during the Evolution Championship Series fighting game tournament in Las Vegas complete with a trailer clip featuring Kaszuya and Heihachi. The soon to be released Tekken 7 game will be powered by Unreal Engine 4 by Epic Games. According to Harada, "With Unreal Engine 4, we could rapidly achieve visual quality expected on next-gen platform and go beyond it. Not only is Unreal Engine 4 powerful and easy to use, but it allows us to immediately bring Tekken 7 to any platform we desire."

So does it mean that Tekken 7 would be coming anytime soon on Sony's PS4? It may still be too early to say. Harada hasn't mentioned any definite release date yet, despite this year being marked by fans as the 20th anniversary of Tekken.
