Aaron Hernandez Murder Trial: All The Latest News On The Aaron Hernandez Murder Trial For The Shooting Of Odin Lloyd
Odin Lloyd's murder occurred on June 17th 2013 with his death hitting the headlines and Aaron Hernandez being investigated as a suspect in the case. At this time Aaron was still a tight end for the New England Patriots of the National Football League. The late Lloyd was a linebacker from a semi professional football team in Boston Bandits.
Hernandez was arrested on June 26th 2013 and was charged with Lloyd's murder but was later released after ninety minutes of his arrest by the Patriots. There were two other men who were arrested in connection to the murder namely Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace after the prosecutors said that both men were with Hernandez when they drove to the place of the murder. However, they were indicted by a grand jury for the murder of Odin Lloyd.
The first degree murder trial of Aaron Hernandez in the shooting death of Odin Lloyd will now begin early 2015 with the Jury selection set to start in January 9th. This was all ruled on Tuesday where Hernandez appeared in Bristol Superior Court in Fall River flanked by his attorney. Superior Court Judge E. Susan Garsh set the date for jury selection and before that date the judge will have to decide a number of issues that include a possible defense request for the change of venue.
Hernandez defense attorney Michael K Fee told the judge that an effort by the defense to get some records from his former NFL team has been resolved. With this announcement, it led to the cancellation of the hearing that was set for Tuesday afternoon. The Patriots agreed to turn over 317 pages of Hernandez medical reports to defenses earlier on this month.
Hernandez lost his bid to suppress search evidence. However, he did plead not guilty to killing Lloyd in June 2013 near Hernandez's North Attleborough home.
His two allies Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace are both being charged with murder in Lloyd's death and they also pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Hernandez is also being charged with fatally shooting two men following a chance encounter at a Boston Theater District nightclub in July 2013. He pleaded not guilty to this charges and the murder charges in the death of Safiro Furtado and Daniel Abreu, two Cape Verdean cleaners who had never met Hernandez before that night and whose families are prosecuting Hernandez for wrongful death. The Lloyd family has also filed a wrongful death law-suit.
