The single was less than 24 hours old. She performed it anyway - and the crowd already knew every word.

Nobody on the Coachella grounds Saturday night, April 18, expected Olivia Rodrigo to walk out on that stage. But that's exactly what happened.

Mid-set during Addison Rae's Weekend 2 performance, Rodrigo emerged from the side stairs just as Rae hit the lyric in Headphones On - "I compare myself to the new It Girl" - and the crowd immediately erupted. The two then launched straight into the live debut of Rodrigo's brand-new single, "drop dead," a song that had only been released the day before.

Somehow, fans already knew the words.

Rae had teased the moment just seconds earlier, asking the crowd if they'd listened to any new music that week. Nobody caught on. When Rodrigo appeared, the reaction was instant.

Fan responses flooded social media within minutes. "This is more iconic than the Super Bowl," one post on X read. Another fan wrote, "Thank you Addison for giving us the first live performance of drop dead."

"drop dead" is the lead single from Rodrigo's upcoming third studio album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, set for release on June 12, 2026 via Geffen Records. The music video - directed by Petra Collins and filmed at the Palace of Versailles in Paris - dropped alongside the single on April 17.

The album features 13 tracks and reunites Rodrigo with producer Dan Nigro, who also helmed her first two records. Rodrigo has described it as her most experimental project yet, inspired by her time living in London.

The surprise Coachella moment has already sparked speculation about a potential full collaboration between Rodrigo and Rae on the upcoming album - though nothing has been confirmed.

For fans of faith, Rodrigo has long been candid about navigating identity, self-worth, and personal values in the spotlight - themes that continue to connect with young believers across generations.
