Jonathan Roumie, the actor best known for portraying Jesus in The Chosen, is asking fans to pray for the cast and crew as the hit series approaches its final season. Speaking with ChurchLeaders during the 2026 K-LOVE Fan Awards in Nashville, Roumie reflected on faith, spiritual warfare, and the personal impact of bringing Jesus' story to life on screen.

When asked by ChurchLeaders what he would be doing if he knew Jesus was returning tonight, Roumie responded without hesitation: "On my knees in prayer."

The conversation offered a glimpse into the spiritual convictions that have shaped Roumie's portrayal of Christ throughout the global phenomenon's run. While many viewers see the role as an acting achievement, Roumie explained that portraying Jesus involves something much deeper.

"Many people don't understand that it involves an intertwining of souls with yourself and Jesus if you're open to that," he told ChurchLeaders. "If you allow that, it'll change everything about performance and about a relationship with Jesus."

His comments come as the cast and crew prepare to complete the final chapter of one of the most successful faith-based productions in television history. Season 6, which is set to premiere later this year on Prime Video, will focus on the crucifixion of Christ, while the final season will bring the story to its triumphant conclusion.

Roumie recently acknowledged the physical and emotional demands of filming the Passion narrative, and during the K-LOVE Fan Awards interview he opened up about the spiritual process of navigating those intense scenes.

"Now especially when going through the Passion, I'm in the process of kind of separating myself from His trauma and finding the place of rest and joy for the resurrection," he shared.

Despite the series approaching its final episodes, Roumie stressed that the mission behind The Chosen extends far beyond television.

"It never ends," he said. "Jesus never leaves you. So double-down on your own relationship with Him in real life."

The actor also issued a heartfelt request to viewers around the world: pray for the team as they finish the project that has introduced millions of people to the story of Jesus.

"Continued prayers that we finish strong," Roumie said. "That the enemy doesn't get in and try to destroy relationships or shake things up in a way where it makes finishing harder. Because he'll do that."

According to Roumie, spiritual opposition has been present throughout the show's journey.

"He's done that on day one," he said. "He does that every season and he tries to get in there and get under our skin, but we just got to be aware of his tactics and stay prayed up against him and we'll be all right."

Roumie was nominated for the TV/Streaming Impact Award at this year's K-LOVE Fan Awards for his work on The Chosen Adventures and also served as one of the evening's presenters.

As filming continues on the final season of The Chosen, Roumie remains focused on the same message that has defined both his career and his faith journey: keeping people's eyes fixed on Jesus long after the cameras stop rolling.
