Former U.S. Senator Ben Sasse has shared another remarkable update in his battle with stage-4 pancreatic cancer - and this time, the numbers are turning heads in the medical community as much as in the church.
In a clip shared by Sola Media on July 10, Sasse revealed that the amount of cancer detected in his blood has fallen 99% over five months of treatment, with his tumors shrinking by more than 80%. He described his current condition as "two small bads and one giant good," pointing to lingering treatment side effects alongside the dramatic improvement.
Sasse, 54, was diagnosed with metastatic stage-4 pancreatic cancer in December 2025, when doctors gave him as little as 90 days to live. The cancer had already spread to his lungs, liver, lymph nodes, and vascular system. His continued progress has been credited to daraxonrasib, an experimental targeted therapy being studied in an ongoing clinical trial for advanced pancreatic cancer patients - one that researchers say could offer new hope well beyond Sasse's own case.
Throughout his diagnosis, the former Nebraska senator and one-time University of Florida president has used his platform to speak openly about mortality and hope in Christ. He's previously reflected on his belief that "there are no maverick molecules in the universe" - a nod to God's sovereignty even over suffering and disease - and continues hosting his podcast, Not Dead Yet, where he discusses faith, family, and what it means to live with a terminal diagnosis without losing hope.
Sasse has said his cancer hasn't shaken his trust in God's providence - it's deepened it, calling his diagnosis "a touch of grace" that stripped away illusions of self-sufficiency.
As Sasse continues treatment, many continue to follow his journey and pray for his family.
