Nancy Guthrie's disappearance has now passed the six-month mark, and a retired FBI profiler says the two ransom notes tied to her case contain far more clues than investigators may have first realized.
Speaking on journalist Brian Entin's podcast, retired FBI profiler Jim Clemente walked through the notes line by line, pointing out patterns he considers unusual for a genuine ransom demand. Clemente noted that one note's phrase "we have your mother Nancy" was oddly redundant, since the sender was already writing to Nancy's own daughter, suggesting the message contained more explanatory language than a real kidnapper typically needs. He also pointed to shifts in verb tense throughout the notes, calling the inconsistency notable, and said the notes appeared to be written by a single author.
Clemente's analysis follows the Pima County Sheriff's Department's decision to release the full text of two notes sent on February 2 and February 6, addressed to Savannah Guthrie and the Guthrie family. The notes demanded a bitcoin ransom and, in the second message, claimed Nancy had died shortly after being taken.
Retired FBI Special Agent Daniel Brunner echoed the scrutiny in a separate interview, discussing what the notes' content suggests about where the investigation stands. No suspect has been publicly named, and authorities have not confirmed the notes' authenticity.
The Guthrie family has continued to ask supporters for prayers as the search stretches into its seventh month, a request they've repeated at each major update in the case.
