Donnie Wahlberg just celebrated his birthday by revealing something considerably bigger than cake, presents and another trip around the sun: he and wife Jenny McCarthy have been baptized.

The New Kids on the Block singer and Blue Bloods star marked his August 17 birthday with an emotional social media reel looking back over the previous year. Tucked among footage of performances, television appearances and romantic moments with McCarthy were clips showing the famous couple being baptized.

And Wahlberg made absolutely no mystery about what the moment means to him.

"Looking back over the past year of my life, the Lord has been renewing my mind, rebuilding my spirit, rearranging my priorities, recentering my focus," Wahlberg wrote, before describing God as also "refining my faith, restoring my joy and redeeming my life."

Then came his biggest declaration: "I don't know where I would be without Jesus, but I know where I will be with Him! All the glory is His!"

The birthday montage was appropriately set to Elevation Worship and Chandler Moore's "God I'm Just Grateful," turning what could have been the usual celebrity birthday highlight reel into something resembling a public testimony.

And this baptism didn't exactly come out of nowhere.

Wahlberg has become increasingly outspoken about Christianity in recent months. During an April appearance on The George Janko Show, the actor opened up about reaching a point where simply relying on himself was no longer enough.

He recalled telling McCarthy that something had changed spiritually and that he needed to surrender completely to Christ.

"I have to give my life to Him now," Wahlberg recalled telling his wife.

That revelation was particularly striking because Wahlberg has spent decades projecting the image of someone who seemingly had everything under control: boy-band superstardom, a lengthy acting career, a successful marriage and a fiercely loyal New Kids on the Block fanbase.

But behind all that success, Wahlberg said he eventually realized he couldn't do life entirely on his own.

His spiritual transformation became even more public when retired MMA fighter Christian Reynoso shared an interaction involving Wahlberg earlier this year. Asked about his greatest accomplishment, Wahlberg didn't point to New Kids on the Block, his television career or his decades in Hollywood.

He pointed to Jesus.

Wahlberg said committing his life to Christ was his greatest accomplishment.

Now the baptism footage provides a very visible next chapter to that story.

It also puts an intriguing spotlight on McCarthy. While much of the recent discussion has centered on Wahlberg's increasingly public Christian testimony, the birthday reel shows that his wife was apparently participating in this milestone alongside him.

The couple, who married in 2014, have never been particularly shy about displaying their affection for each other. But getting baptized together adds an entirely different dimension to their very public marriage.

There's also an interesting Wahlberg family connection.

Donnie's younger brother Mark Wahlberg has become one of Hollywood's most outspoken Catholics, frequently discussing prayer, fasting and the importance of putting his faith ahead of his career. Mark has also worked closely with Catholic prayer app Hallow.

Now Donnie is publicly talking about Jesus with similar boldness-although his own journey and expressions of faith are distinctly his.

At 57, Wahlberg appears to be entering a very different chapter.

He's still performing with New Kids on the Block. He's still playing Danny Reagan, with the character continuing beyond Blue Bloods into Boston Blue. He's still very much the celebrity his beloved "Blockheads" have followed for decades.

But increasingly, Wahlberg seems determined to make sure fans know that fame isn't what he considers his greatest achievement.

The baptism may be the clearest statement yet.

After nearly four decades of screaming fans, hit records and television success, Donnie Wahlberg is using his platform to say that the biggest transformation in his life happened away from the stage-and in the water.
