Character actor David Krumholtz, known for roles in "Oppenheimer," "Supergirl," and "The Santa Clause" franchise, announced this week he is stepping away from acting indefinitely after more than three decades in Hollywood.

The 48-year-old actor shared the news on Threads Monday, admitting he had been "frustrated, fed up, fried" with the industry. He wrote that he had finally sent what he called the "definitive email" pausing his career, describing years of fear over the decision before finally making it.

After the post drew an outpouring of support from fans and fellow actors, Krumholtz clarified he isn't retiring for good. "Ain't over, rather, redefining my terms," he wrote, adding he's "hoping to find a new, more rewarding passion" and wants to "be of service."

What stood out most was the spiritual note in his explanation. Krumholtz told one fan who urged him not to quit, "The stress of the moment has me wondering if there's a higher calling to pursue." For an actor with over 140 credits - from "10 Things I Hate About You" to his role as Isidor Isaac Rabi in "Oppenheimer" - the admission suggests his next chapter may be less about the spotlight and more about purpose.

Krumholtz most recently appeared as Zor-El in DC's "Supergirl," released earlier this year. No word yet on whether the break affects any future projects.
