Jelly Roll wants a do-over, and he's not shy about asking for it.
During the August 26 episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," the country star sat down with "The Rookie" lead Nathan Fillion and confirmed a rumor: he was once cast to appear on the hit ABC drama, only to fall ill before filming. "I was so close," Jelly Roll said. "They even wrote me a part and I blew it. I got sick after... You don't know how much it meant to me."
He didn't rule out trying again, even joking about his own history with law enforcement. "I don't know if I'd make a good cop," he said, "but I could definitely fill the other side of that street for you."
It's not Jelly Roll's first attempt at acting. In April 2025, he made his scripted TV debut on CBS's "Fire Country," playing a healthcare worker and former convict - a role producers built to reflect his own story of hitting rock bottom and finding a way back.
That theme of second chances isn't just a plot device for Jelly Roll. It's the foundation of his public testimony, rooted in his years cycling in and out of jail as a teenager and the faith and sobriety journey he's credited with turning his life around.
Whether "The Rookie" writes him back in remains to be seen - but Jelly Roll made clear he hasn't given up on the role.
