Tauren Wells has released the live version of "Here Comes the Church" featuring Tiffany Hudson, giving fans their clearest preview yet of his upcoming live album of the same name, out October 2 on Capitol CMG.
The track was captured during a sold-out taping at ACL Live at the Moody Theater in Austin, Texas - the same venue Wells and his wife, Lorna, call home as lead pastors of Church of Whitestone. Wells called the song "not just a new song" but "an ANTHEM" in a post announcing the release, praising his collaboration with Hudson.
Here Comes the Church marks Wells' first live album and pulls its 14-song tracklist from his fourth studio record, Breathe On It, released earlier this year. The project brings together an unusually wide guest list for a single worship release, including Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Naomi Raine, Israel Houghton, Hulvey, Abbie Gamboa, Paul and Hannah McClure, Todd Galberth, and Pastor Mike Jr., alongside Hudson.
Wells has described the album as an intentional effort to bridge divides within the church rather than showcase a single style or audience. "This isn't just a gospel album, a Spanish-language album, a black album, or a white album," he said. "The record is an expression of my goal to draw everyone out of the little worlds that we separately exist in and into a place of unity."
That same vision shaped Church of Whitestone itself, which Wells and Lorna launched in Austin in January 2024 to nearly 4,000 attendees on opening weekend - reportedly the largest first-day church launch in American history. With Here Comes the Church, Wells continues translating that congregation's growth into a wider invitation: come as you are, and sing together.
