Anne Wilson's breakout hit "My Jesus" is heading to the big screen. Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company - the studio behind faith-based hits I Can Only Imagine and Jesus Revolution - announced Tuesday that production on My Jesus begins next month, with a cast now locked in.
Singer-songwriter Aliza Kate Barlow, making her feature film debut, will star as Anne Wilson. She's joined by Gavin Casalegno (The Summer I Turned Pretty) as Anne's brother Jacob, Monica Potter (Parenthood) as their mother Lynn, Charles Esten (Nashville, Homestead: The Series) as their father Kent, and Beau Bridges (Matlock) as their grandfather Bob.
Kay Oyegun, previously an executive producer on NBC's This Is Us, wrote the screenplay based on Wilson's book My Jesus: From Heartache to Hope and will direct in her feature debut.
The music-driven, coming-of-age film follows Anne's real story - a Kentucky teenager whose life changed after she posted a video of herself singing online, catching the attention of Christian and country music executives. The film traces how she navigated newfound attention, her family, and her relationship with God along the way.
"My Jesus" spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the Christian Airplay chart, making Wilson the first female solo artist to lead the chart with a debut single since it launched in 2003. The song also won a GMA Dove Award and earned Wilson a Grammy nomination for her album of the same name.
"Her journey isn't just evocative and emotional - it shows how trusting that faith changed her life in every way," said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group president Erin Westerman.
