Brandon Lake surprised fans by dropping a live version of his song "How Good God Is," titled "How Good God Is - In The Room," announcing the release on Facebook.
"What's up y'all!!! We surprise dropped How Good God Is - In The Room last night!" Lake wrote. "The Holy Spirit was MOVING, and hearing all those voices worshipping together was something really special."
The studio version of "How Good God Is" released August 28 on Provident Label Group, written by Lake alongside Jonathan Smith, Derrick Southerland, and Emily Weisband. The song is a reflective, first-person testimony of gratitude for hard seasons - thanking God for the anger that forced him to pray, the silence that taught him to wait, and the weakness that showed him God's strength. Lake has said he wouldn't have known how good God truly is without those difficult stretches of his life.
The "In The Room" live series has become a signature format for Lake, capturing congregational worship moments as they happen rather than in a studio setting - previous entries include "Plans" and "But God" from King of Hearts - In The Room!
Fans reacted immediately to the surprise release. One commenter wrote that they found themselves praising God to the song alone in a parking lot, "raising my hands, closing my eyes" - exactly the kind of response Lake said he hoped to capture by putting the live voices out into the world.
