A day after news broke of Angela Stribling's passing, more of the beloved broadcaster's story is coming into focus, painting a fuller picture of a woman whose reach went far beyond the BET and WHUR airwaves that made her a household name in Washington, D.C.
Stribling passed away peacefully Saturday evening, according to a tribute shared by longtime colleague Tyrone "Doc T" Taborn, cofounder of Career Communications Group. She was surrounded by her husband, Dr. Ken Washington, and her sister. Taborn revealed that Stribling had served for more than three decades as the cherished voice of the BEYA STEM Conference and the Women of Color STEM Conference - roles that introduced her to Washington in 2021, when the two met backstage while he delivered a keynote address.
Beyond her broadcasting résumé - which already included stints at BET's Screen Scene and Jazz Central, WHUR's Pillow Talk With Angela, and voice work for SiriusXM's Watercolors - reports indicate Stribling was born and raised in Buffalo, New York, and trained in both jazz and classical vocals before earning a fashion merchandising degree from New York's Fashion Institute of Technology.
Career Communications Group says it's planning tributes to Stribling at the AI NEXTGEN America Conference this October and at next year's BEYA STEM Conference - a fitting continuation for a woman Taborn called "part of the family."
