Anne Hathaway's Colleen Hoover thriller "Verity" opens Friday, Oct. 2. Early forecasts point to a $30 million to $35 million domestic debut from 3,510 theaters. That would likely give Hathaway her third No. 1 opening of 2026, after "The Devil Wears Prada 2" and "The Odyssey."

Past Hoover films give context: "It Ends With Us" opened to $50 million, "Reminders of Him" to $17.8 million, and "Regretting You" to $13.6 million.
What critics are saying
Early reviews are mixed. The film sits at 43% on Rotten Tomatoes and 43 on Metacritic. The Seattle Times called it an erotic thriller that is neither erotic nor thrilling.
Is it right for Christian viewers?
The MPA rated it R for sexual content, some nudity, language, violence and bloody images. Faith-based review site Movieguide gave it two stars and a heavy content warning, advising that even mature Christian adults pass on it. It acknowledged the story shows how manipulation, obsession and revenge destroy people, but said graphic sex and a lack of redemption undercut that message.
