Princess Diana's brother says one of her sons contacts him more than the other. Charles Spencer discussed his relationships with Prince William and Prince Harry on Katie Couric's podcast on Thursday, October 1, while promoting his memoir, "Swan Song: Diana, My Sister."

What he said

Spencer, 62, said he hears "a lot more" from Harry, though he stressed that doesn't mean he's totally equal with both nephews. He said he takes no side, but thinks there are occasions when Harry may need him more. He described himself as an uncle who is there if needed and not if not, and said his nephews are grown men who can make of him what they want.

Why he says Harry may need him more

Spencer sees parallels between how Harry and Diana were treated after leaving the royal inner circle, and said Harry faces challenges daily that are not acceptable.

What he says about his book

Spencer said he told William and Harry about the memoir at the same time, after it was already finished, and says Harry is completely fine about it. Earlier, on CBS Mornings on Sept. 28, he confirmed he had been in contact with both William and Harry since the book came out.

A family still divided

The brothers remain estranged. At Diana's 1997 funeral, Spencer publicly vowed that her "blood family" would help protect William and Harry.
