American Idol Season 23 winner Jamal Roberts has released his debut album, The Journey, a nine-track project out now through 19 Recordings/BMG.
What's on the album
The record was produced by Tricky Stewart, Emile Ghantous and J. Valentine. Most songs focus on love and family. They include "Perfect For Me," "And This," and "Girl Dad," which Roberts wrote as a tribute to his daughters. He is a father of three girls. Roberts said he hopes every dad who hears it feels seen and every daughter feels deeply loved.
Why he called it 'The Journey'
Roberts said, "everybody's got a story, and this album is mine." He described it as covering lessons, blessings, heartbreaks and prayers from the people and moments that shaped him. Rated R&B called the project his testimony.
Roberts grew up in Meridian, Mississippi, singing in his church choir, and has said openly that his faith shapes his music. During Idol, he said he came "to bring Jesus to Idol." After he won in May 2025, his cover of "Heal" reached No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Gospel Songs chart. He later earned a Grammy nomination for Best Gospel Performance/Song for "Still," a collaboration with Jonathan McReynolds.
Where to listen
The Journey is available now on Spotify, Apple Music and other major streaming platforms.
For many fans, the album shows a gospel-rooted singer carrying that foundation into a wider R&B sound.
