Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live on October 3, dropping in during friend Dakota Johnson's opening monologue, to push back on being called Johnson's "literal therapist."
What happened: While joking about her recent public breakups, Johnson said she leans on friends who don't judge her, then introduced Swift. Swift's reply was, "I'm not your therapist, actually." She joked that Johnson shows up at her house once a week with an empty bottle of wine. Johnson answered, "Yeah, well I have manners."
Why it happened: Johnson, who is promoting her new film Verity, appears in the new music video for Swift's "Patient Zero," so the cameo was a bit of payback. It was also a birthday gift of sorts. Swift returned during the curtain call with a cake for Johnson, who turned 37 on Sunday.
It was Swift's first onscreen SNL appearance since October 2023, when she introduced Ice Spice as musical guest. It was also Johnson's third time hosting the show.
