Doobie Brothers singer Michael McDonald has met the son he placed for adoption nearly six decades ago, and learned he is a grandfather.
How did they find each other? Michael Goessling of St. Louis grew up knowing he was adopted. According to local reports, one of McDonald's children took a 23andMe DNA test and matched with Goessling as a half-brother. Goessling then contacted McDonald, who is 74, and asked whether he was his biological father. "Yeah, I'm afraid so," McDonald reportedly answered.
He told KMOV the news was "a gift." He also described Goessling's adoptive parents, Paul and Kay Goessling, as "the real rock stars" of the story for giving their son love and security. After the two men met, Goessling introduced McDonald to his family, including McDonald's two grandchildren.
The five-time Grammy winner is best known for his Doobie Brothers hits, including "What a Fool Believes," and his solo songs such as "I Keep Forgettin'" and "On My Own." He is also known for the Grammy-winning duet "Yah Mo B There."
