Faith-based cinema has a busy stretch ahead, with new releases from October through December. Here are four confirmed films, what each is about, and when to see them.
Flywheel: Ignition of the Soul (October 16)
Sony's Affirm Films is releasing a Brazilian remake of the Kendrick Brothers' 2003 debut, Flywheel. It follows Noah Silva, a smooth-talking used-car salesman in Rio de Janeiro whose "do whatever it takes" approach begins to unravel at home and at work. The film was made in Portuguese and will be dubbed and subtitled in English for US theaters.
Conceivable (October 16)
This PG-13 drama from Hawk Hill Pictures follows a midlife couple facing an unexpected pregnancy, and how it tests their beliefs and relationships. It stars Dean Cain and Daniel Roebuck and is inspired by director Beth Caulfield's own story. It opens in select theaters.
Sight & Sound Presents: JOSHUA-Live! (October 30)
This is a filmed version of the Sight & Sound stage production, with Joshua leading Israel toward the Promised Land. It runs about 2 hours 15 minutes and plays in movie theaters nationwide. Tickets go on sale October 6.
Zero A.D.: The Birth of Christ (December 11)
Angel Studios' holiday epic comes from Sound of Freedom director Alejandro Monteverde. It is set around the birth of Jesus and Herod's slaughter of the innocents, as told in the Gospel of Matthew. The cast includes Deva Cassel, Jim Caviezel, Sam Worthington, Gael García Bernal and Ben Mendelsohn.
Planning tips: Some releases open in limited or select theaters, so check local listings. Ratings vary: Conceivable is PG-13 and Flywheel is PG. Release dates can shift, so confirm before you buy tickets.
