What Did Olivia Rodrigo Post About the Cornell Lawsuit That Drew Megyn Kelly's Response?

Megyn Kelly criticized singer Olivia Rodrigo on her YouTube show Monday, October 5, after Rodrigo publicly backed the woman identified in court filings as Jane Doe, who is suing seven former members of Cornell University's Chi Phi fraternity over alleged sexual assault.

Rodrigo posted on her Instagram Story on Sunday, October 4, writing that she stands with Jane Doe and criticizing Cornell. Kelly responded by telling the singer to "shut up and stick to singing." Kelly's remarks centered on how public figures should discuss unresolved allegations, and she urged due process. Rodrigo has not been reported to have replied, and Billboard said it had asked her representative for comment.

What the lawsuit alleges

The civil lawsuit was filed in September by an anonymous woman who alleges she was drugged and sexually assaulted in October 2024, and claims Cornell failed to protect her or deliver justice. The accused have denied wrongdoing, with some saying the activity was consensual or misrepresented. These are allegations, and nothing has been proven in court.

Where Cornell stands

Cornell has defended its original 2024 investigation but welcomed a re-examination of the case. Its president, Michael Kotlikoff, said the university will take part in an independent investigation into how it handled the report. The civil lawsuit remains pending, while the criminal investigation and Cornell's separate review continue.

Other entertainers, including Florence Pugh and Lzzy Hale, have also voiced support for Jane Doe.
