Caroline Cobb is bringing her struggles with sleep, rest, and anxiety into a new song rooted in Psalm 127. Her latest single, "Sleep (Psalm 127)," introduces a deeply personal question with wider spiritual implications: what does trusting God look like when the mind refuses to rest?
The song's release accompanies Brett McCracken's new Zondervan book, The Wisdom of Sleep. In an Instagram post announcing the collaboration, McCracken explained that he had contacted several favorite artists earlier this year, inviting them to release-or write-songs connected to the book's themes. Those themes include Sabbath, grace, surrender to God's sovereignty, and accepting human limits.
Cobb accepted that invitation with a song that draws directly from her own experience. She described "Sleep (Psalm 127)" as bringing "my personal struggles with sleep, rest, and anxiety over the last few years into conversation with one of my favorite Psalms."
That description gives the release an intimate starting point. Sleep can become especially difficult when responsibilities, uncertainty, and anxious thoughts crowd the night. Cobb's account places those struggles in conversation with Scripture, inviting listeners to consider how faith speaks into an experience that can feel frustratingly beyond their control.
The collaboration also connects the song to McCracken's exploration of limits as a God-given grace. That idea raises a searching question for a culture accustomed to measuring worth through output: can accepting the need for rest become part of a faithful life? The song and book approach that question through different forms, offering listeners and readers related opportunities for reflection.
"Sleep (Psalm 127)" will appear on Cobb's forthcoming 15-song album, Human Being, scheduled for spring 2027. According to McCracken, Cobb described the album's central question as: "What does it look like to be human?"
The project will explore limits, dependence, and creatureliness through everyday realities, including digital life and artificial intelligence, death, friendship, marriage, and parenting children at different ages. That scope places the new single within a larger examination of how people live with needs and responsibilities they cannot always manage or master.
For Cobb, the personal nature of the song is its most compelling introduction. Her willingness to name anxiety alongside sleep and rest gives listeners a point of connection before they encounter the wider album. It also leaves room for a conversation about dependence that begins with an ordinary, often difficult part of daily life.
"Sleep (Psalm 127)" is now available on streaming platforms. Human Being is expected in spring 2027.
