CCM Songwriter and Producer Don Koch Has Stage 4 Lung Cancer & Brain Tumor
Christian music songwriter and producer Don Koch is asking for prayers as he has been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in April and now the doctors have also discovered that he has a tumor in his brain (he was never a smoker). Koch is known for writing songs such as "In Christ Alone" (Michael English), "A Strange Way to Save the World" (4Him), "Mercy We Can't Go Beyond" (Jason Crabb), "Mercy Came Running" (Phillips,Craig & Dean), "Be Near" (Greg Long), and many others.
Koch signed his first publishing deal in 1986 and since then, he has written 39 number one songs in the Christian radio market and has worked with some of the biggest names in Christian music.
His wife is asking fans to pray. "We want to let you know that in April Don Koch was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and now there is also a tumor in his brain (he was never a smoker). We are coveting your prayers for Don and our family as we walk down this road. His doctors aren't terribly optimistic about his recovery, but we believe that God has the final say in everything that touches our lives.
"Please join us in praying for total healing and that God will be glorified through this. If you pray for Don, would you consider sending us a note or card in the mail? I will put them up on our wall as a tangible reminder for him that we are covered in prayer."
Koch has also produced records for 4Him, Larnelle Harris, Newsong, Greg Long, Charles Billingsley, Al Denson, Dallas Holm and Matthew Ward. He has also played keyboards on recordings for Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, Fred Hammond, Rascal Flatts, Craig Morgan and others.
Koch has received 6 Dove Awards including Song of the Year, Inspirational Recorded Song of the Year and Inspirational Record of the year. In his early years he toured with Christian Artists Geoff Moore and Rich Mullins as a keyboard player.
