Thor 3 Still "A Ways Away," Says Thor Star Chris Hemsworth Before He Gets To Fight Surtur, The Executioner and The Enchantress On Ragnarok
The Thor 3 movie is "a ways away," says Chris Hemsworth who plays the part of the Norse god of thunder. According to Collider, the actor told the San Diego Comic-Con crowd: "Yeah I got a lot of time. I don't think it's just yet, Thor 3. I think it's a ways away."
So what does he do with his extra time? Perhaps continue chiseling out his physique with the official Thor 3 workout routine with his trainer for the Marvel films, former Navy SEAL Duffy Gaver? Said Gaver: "People see Chris and they think he was on steroids, but he didn't touch a single substance. It was just red meat, heavy weights and some protein powder. He crushed every single workout. He simply decided to look like Thor."
Hemsworth gained 20 pounds of lean mass following a strict, old-school bodybuilding regimen while adopting a new protein-rich diet to transform his physique into that of Thor. The Thor 3 program involves repetitive squats, bench presses, deadlifts and other heavy compound exercises.
Based on his current schedule though, it seems that Hemsworth has anything but time at the moment to do another Thor movie anyway. He is currently filming for next year's Avengers: Age of Ultron. He will also be next starring in Michael Mann's Blackhat and Ron Howard's Heart of the Sea. Then he will begin with The Huntsman, the prequel to the 2012 box office hit Snow White and the Huntsman film. Hemsworth will probably be booked until 2016 before he can even begin considering committing himself to do the Thor 3 movie. James Garcia of Flickering Myth is guessing that the next installment in the Thor franchise won't be available for theater screening until May 2017.
Back in January, Marvel Studios announced that Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle will be the screenwriters for Thor 3. Kyle transitioned from being Marvel's senior vice president of Production and Development to once more becoming a full-time screenwriter. He reportedly teased Screen Rant that the upcoming Thor movie will be based on the Ragnarok storyline featured in the Marvel comic books. Rumors also have it that the fire demon Surtur will be the main antagonist in Thor 3. He and the flame giants of Muspelheim will try destroy Asgard, forcing Thor, who was exiled on Earth in Thor 2, to return and save the realm. Aside from Surtur, according to Comic Book Movie, the other major villains in the upcoming film will be the Enchantress and the Executioner, both of whom are Thor's fellow Asgardians.
Despite Hemsworth's current busy schedule, the Thor 3 wiki says that it's already been confirmed that he along with Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Kat Dennings, Stellan Skarsgard, Idris Elba, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Jamie Alexander, Clark Gregg, and Elena Satine will be cast in the next Thor movie.
Incidentally, the Thor 3 satellite launched by Canal Digital for DTH services in the Nordic areas back in 1998 is still operational but has been pointed towards the middle east.
