'Captain America 3' Update: Robert Downey Jr. Joins and Suit Up As Iron Man
Few days ago, we've read some news that Robert Downey Jr. is on the final stage of negotiations in joining the cast of "Captain America 3." The film is said to be released on May 2016, according to IMDb.
Now, reports from Variety say that Downey Jr. will reprise his role of billionaire Tony Stark in the upcoming "Captain America 3" movie. This prompted speculations that this will be the beginning of Marvel's "Civil War" storyline in which Tony Stark will have to go against Steve Rogers.
The entire feud begins with the "Superhero Registration Act," which forces anyone with superpowers to reveal themselves and be recorded by the United States government so they can become protectors or police forces for those in power and be used for personal purposes. Tony Stark supports this bill but Steve Rogers does not, for the reason that he believes it will threaten civil liberties. This particular "Civil War" storyline is crucial in terms of Captain America being an 'outlaw' and on the run from other superheroes.
The Civil War storyline is also being rebooted in the current comics, starting in the summer of 2015. This will make it a constant arc not only for the classic comic readers, but also for those who are starting to read the Captain America comics and Iron Man comics at present.
Meanwhile, it is still unclear where in this franchise new heroes, Doctor Strange and Ant-Man will fit it and if the other heroes such as Thor and Hawkeye will return. The "Guardians of the Galaxy" is another series that Marvel has yet to reveal where they will fall in the Avengers universe, so you might want to watch out for that.
On the other hand, Anthony and Joe Russo, who directed the "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," will return to direct "Captain America 3." The brothers are working on the script together with Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. No other cast members have been announced for the film, but there are a number of crew members already assembled.
The Captain America 3 movie is expected to be premiered on a May 2016, with production starting next spring.
