Terminator Genisys 2015 updates: Terminator Genisys set between 1984 to 1991; actor Jai Courtney shares it's a completely different movie

Terminator Genisys updates: Actor Jai Courtney, who plays Kyle Reese in Terminator Genisys, reveals that the movie won't just be a reboot of the old Terminator movies.

He tells Empire :

"What I can say is that we start in a place we're familiar with from the early films and then, you know, circumstances change. It somewhat shifts the course of events from that point. It's not necessarily a sequel or a reboot. I don't even know how you brand it correctly. We're not remaking one of the early 'Terminator' movies. And it doesn't necessarily carry on from the point where we left off."

Terminator Genisys plot is set sometime between 1984 and 1991, and will focus on time traveling T-800 robots.

Producer Paramount Pictures has announced that Terminator Genisys release date has been set for July 1 2015, with sequels coming out in May 19, 2017 and June 29, 2018.

The original Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger, reprises his role as the iconic cyborg. Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke, Dayo Okeniyi, Matt Smith, Byung-hun Lee, and J. K. Simmons also join the Terminator Genesis cast.

The sci-fi action franchise, which focused on time-traveling cyborgs and their power to change the future, catapulted Schwarzenegger and director James Cameron to stardom. The original Terminator was followed by Terminator 2: Judgment Day in 1991, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines in 2003, and Terminator Salvation in 2009. A spinoff TV series, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, featured Lena Headey as Sarah Connor and Thomas Dekker as John Connor.

Terminator Genisys is directed by Alan Taylor and is co-written by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier.
