Ben Sasse's most recent public health update came Sept. 23, when the former Nebraska senator, 54, said he was changing treatment protocols after major liver surgery. As of Oct. 22, that is the latest update JubileeCast could find.
Sasse said surgeons at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston cleared a significant amount of cancer, something that wasn't possible nine months earlier when he was first given three to four months to live. The bad news was that tests showed his tumors were more advanced than expected and had developed some resistance to his former treatment. He called it "Bummer but that's life, and was eventually expected."
His medical team is now shifting to aggressive chemotherapy. Sasse entered a clinical trial for daraxonrasib (Rasonque) in January, and the drug received accelerated FDA approval in late August. Earlier this year, he blamed a bleeding skin rash on his face on the trial drug.
On faith, Sasse closed his update by thanking God and his care team for the extra time with his family. He also thanked his wife, his three children, and the doctors and nurses at MD Anderson. When a follower on X told him they were praying for him, he replied "Thx for the prayers."
He has also spoken about Tim Keller, who died of pancreatic cancer and whom Sasse spoke with in his final months.
Please keep Ben Sasse and his family in your prayers.
