Annabelle: Movie Review
Haunted and diabolic are the words that best describe Annabelle – a creepy-looking doll that was first shown from the movie “The Conjuring”. Annabelle is a prequel to that 2013 hit horror movie. Released by Warner Bros., a notable Hollywood studio, the most awaited horror movie has caught the attention of many, most especially those who have seen the aforementioned movie because of the untold story behind it.
Directed by John R. Leonetti, the movie is set in late 1960s and has slight similarities with the movie “Rosemary’s Baby”.
Below is a short review from BADASS Digest .
It all started with a young couple, John (Ward Horton) and Mia (Annabelle Wallis) Gordon, who are expecting their first baby. John is pragmatic and undoubtedly not ready to have a child, which made her wife upsets. Mia, on the other hand is into vintage Victoria dolls, so she was quite delighted when her husband gave her an eerie-looking doll, later known as Annabelle. After a couple of days, the couple’s neighbours were murdered. The couple decided to move out and throw the doll out.
Later, Mia gave birth to their first child named Lea. However, the grotesque-looking doll mysteriously appeared in their new apartment. The couple began to experience horrible, supernatural occurrences, which involved the said doll.
IMDb stated that after the film was released, there were lots of positive feedbacks from the viewers. However, just like any other horror movie, there were also some negative opinions that came out from other people, especially from the movie critics. Negative reviews from various film critics were observed. Review aggregate websites also reported average ratings.
For example, when the doll levitates a few feet off the ground, some people made fun of that scene. It turned out to be ridiculously funny, making the doll not scary anymore. On a lighter note, what most people love about the film are the sound effects, zoom-ins, and everything in between, making the viewers scream and jolt.
