Pastor Greg Laurie is describing a recent evangelistic event held at Utah Valley University (UVU) as a "miracle," pointing to an extraordinary spiritual response that followed tragedy at the same location.
Speaking about the outreach, Laurie said the arena at UVU was filled to capacity, with an additional 10,000 people gathered across multiple sites throughout Utah watching the event on screens. When the invitation to respond to the gospel was given, Laurie said the response was immediate and overwhelming.
"It was amazing," Laurie shared. "We filled the arena. We had another 10,000 people in different sites around Utah watching on screens, and when the invitation was given, it was an immediate response."
According to Laurie, 1,000 people-most of them young-came forward, filling the arena floor, while another 500 responded in overflow venues. The reach extended well beyond Utah, with approximately 200,000 people watching online. Of those, Laurie said 1,000 individuals made a virtual profession of faith.
In total, Laurie estimates that 2,500 people came to Christ through the combined in-person and online response.
Laurie also shared that he personally contacted Erika Kirk, the widow of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, following the event. Reflecting on the moment, Laurie referenced Luke 15:10, which speaks of joy in heaven over one sinner who repents.
"I told her what happened," Laurie said, "and I said, 'The Bible says that there is joy in heaven and in the presence of the angels over one sinner that comes to repentance. That means that every time someone believes in Jesus on Earth, there's a victory shout in heaven.'"
Laurie added, "Charlie's in heaven. It seems to me we're going to be rejoicing in heaven when we hear of people coming to Christ."
The event has been described as a powerful moment of spiritual awakening, particularly among young people, underscoring Laurie's message that even in the aftermath of tragedy, lives can be transformed and hope renewed through faith.
