Angel Shares, trading on the New York Stock Exchange under ticker ANGX, announced that its epic family animated musical David is projected to gross 22 million dollars at the weekend domestic box office. The opening marks the strongest theatrical debut in the company history.
With this performance, David is expected to become the highest-grossing faith-based animated theatrical opening of all time, surpassing the 19.4 million dollar opening of Sound of Freedom, Angel own previous record holder. Angel has now released two of the top ten highest-grossing animated domestic theatrical releases of 2025, including David and The King of Kings, which together have earned 61 million dollars.
The film, featuring music by multi-platinum artist Phil Wickham, received an A CinemaScore and a 98 percent Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score. The animated musical will begin rolling out in more than 42 international markets starting this week, positioning the David franchise as a long-term strategic asset for the company.
Brandon Purdie, Head of Theatrical at Angel, expressed gratitude for the exhibitors and audience support. He said, Families are looking for films that carry hope and honor meaningful values, and our Angel Guild members embraced David from the very beginning. We greatly value the support of our outstanding exhibitors and look forward to a robust extended theatrical run this Christmas season.
David L. Hunt, Co-Founder and Chief Creative and Content Officer at 2521 Entertainment, highlighted the cultural impact of the story. He commented, The timeless account of King David has been powerfully reimagined for the big screen as an epic family musical. Children will grow up remembering how their parents took them to the theater to experience this film, and these moments become family memories that can last a lifetime.
Earlier in 2025, Angel confirmed that it acquired the David franchise and intellectual property in partnership with 2521 Entertainment. The acquisition included the animated musical film and an accompanying five-part television series, establishing the David intellectual property as a cornerstone for future creative development.
