Hillsong Church has submitted plans to the New South Wales state government for a proposed billion-dollar housing development in Sydney's Norwest, marking one of the largest faith-linked residential projects currently under consideration in Sydney's north-west.
The proposal outlines a large-scale residential precinct that would deliver hundreds of new homes, with some plans indicating up to 1,600 dwellings, alongside supporting infrastructure and mixed-use elements. The development would be located on land associated with Hillsong near the Norwest area, part of Sydney's rapidly growing Hills District.
Submitted through state planning pathways reserved for major developments, the project will be assessed by the NSW Government rather than solely at a local council level. If approved, the development would contribute significantly to housing supply in a region experiencing sustained population growth and increased demand for residential accommodation.
The proposed Norwest precinct reflects ongoing efforts across metropolitan Sydney to address housing shortages through higher-density and master-planned developments near established employment hubs and transport corridors.
The application is now subject to the state government's planning review process, which may include further consultation, environmental assessment, and public feedback before any final determination is made.
Further details are expected to emerge as the proposal progresses through the approval stages.
