Rock Church, the San Diego-based congregation founded and led by Miles McPherson, has announced a $3 million civil settlement in connection with a wrongful-death lawsuit stemming from the 2022 death of 11-year-old Arabella McCormack.

The settlement resolves civil claims brought on behalf of Arabella's surviving sisters and is not an admission of liability. According to court filings, the lawsuit alleged failures related to mandated reporting responsibilities involving a former church volunteer. Criminal proceedings connected to the case remain ongoing and are being handled separately by the courts.

In a statement, Rock Church expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting children, strengthening accountability structures, and supporting the healing of those affected.

"We are heartbroken by the loss of this young life," the church said. "Our prayers continue to be with the family and all who have been impacted. We are committed to learning from this tragedy and ensuring stronger safeguards moving forward."

Rock Church noted that the settlement is intended to help provide long-term care and support for the surviving children. The church also stated that it has reviewed internal policies, reinforced training related to child safety and mandated reporting, and taken corrective action regarding volunteer oversight.

Beyond its local congregation, Rock Church is widely known for its worship ministry and music outreach, which reaches millions globally through live services, recordings, and digital platforms. The church's worship music has played a central role in its mission, emphasizing themes of hope, reconciliation, and spiritual renewal across diverse communities.

Church leaders emphasized that worship remains a core expression of their faith and responsibility.

"Our worship ministry exists to point people toward healing, repentance, and restoration," the statement continued. "In moments of profound grief, worship becomes not a performance, but a prayer - one that calls us to humility, accountability, and love for our neighbors."

Rock Church concluded by reiterating its commitment to serving the San Diego community through faith, music, outreach programs, and ongoing cooperation with authorities, while continuing to evaluate policies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all who participate in church life.
