Acclaimed worship leader and songwriter Rita Springer is reflecting on 2016 as a pivotal year that shaped both her personal life and artistic journey-marking a season of renewed belief, hard-fought creativity, and meaningful milestones.

Springer describes 2016 as a "year of definition," highlighted by the recording of her live album Battles. During the process, Springer strongly advocated for the inclusion of the song Defender, despite doubts from others involved in the project. Her persistence proved significant, as the song went on to resonate deeply with listeners around the world.

"It was a year I fought for what I believed in," Springer shared. "That season taught me the importance of discernment and obedience-even when the outcome isn't guaranteed."

Beyond music, 2016 was rich with personal moments. Springer was still raising a minor, navigating life with braces, and embracing what she humorously called a season of "shiplapping everything." The year also marked the fulfillment of long-held dreams, including the purchase of her first home-complete with a pool-and the joy of planting a small but meaningful garden.

Creatively, Springer celebrated a thriving year with DIVE Creative School, while family life expanded with the arrival of a new nephew and a summer spent watching him skimboard along the coast.

As she looks back, Springer sees 2016 as the foundation for the decade that followed-a year that clarified priorities, deepened faith, and reinforced the value of perseverance.

"I'm thankful for what that first year of the next ten showed me," said Springer. "And I'm ready to take on the next decade."
