Crossroads Church has announced the immediate suspension of Senior Pastor Brian Tome pending the outcome of an independent third-party investigation into an allegation stemming from a 2015 incident.
According to reports, the allegation involves an incident during a video shoot in which Tome allegedly engaged in what has been described as "inappropriate physical humor," including reportedly rubbing a man's crotch area with a riding crop and making a suggestive remark. The matter was previously reviewed internally by church leadership in 2024, resulting in a reprimand. After renewed concerns were raised by the original complainant, the church's Spiritual Board voted to reopen the case and retain an outside investigator to conduct a comprehensive review.
Church officials have confirmed that Tome has been relieved of all pastoral duties during the investigation. Law enforcement is not involved.
Brian Tome is the founding and senior pastor of Crossroads Church, a Cincinnati-based multi-site evangelical congregation established in 1995. Under his leadership, Crossroads grew from a small startup church into one of the largest and most influential churches in the Midwest, with multiple campuses across Ohio and Kentucky and a broad national digital presence.
Known for his direct communication style and emphasis on practical faith, Tome has built a reputation as a bold and culturally engaged church leader. He is also an author and speaker, frequently addressing topics related to leadership, masculinity, spiritual growth, and resilience. His books and conference appearances have extended his influence beyond the local church context into national evangelical circles.
As the founding pastor, Tome has been closely identified with Crossroads' growth strategy, branding, and mission, making his suspension a significant development for the congregation and its broader network.
In a statement to members, the Crossroads Spiritual Board emphasized its commitment to accountability:
"Our responsibility is to uphold the highest standards of integrity and care within our church. We are committed to a process that seeks truth, ensures fairness, and prioritizes the well-being of our community."
Tome has stated publicly that he supports the independent investigation and will cooperate fully.
Crossroads Church has indicated it will provide additional updates upon the completion of the review.
