Following the announcement of his lung cancer surgery and postponed shows, legendary singer Barry Manilow has shared new details about his diagnosis, recovery, and the life-changing impact of the experience.
In a recent interview, the 82-year-old music icon revealed that he was diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer in November 2025 after doctors discovered a small spot on his lung during medical scans. The diagnosis came unexpectedly, as Manilow reported experiencing no symptoms prior to the discovery.
"If he hadn't done that... he saved my life," Manilow said, crediting his doctor for catching the illness early. Further testing confirmed the presence of cancer, prompting immediate treatment.
Manilow underwent a lobectomy to remove the affected portion of his lung and later spent several days in intensive care following the procedure. He described the experience as "a nightmare," though he expressed gratitude that the cancer had not spread and that he did not require chemotherapy or radiation.
The singer, known for hits such as "Copacabana (At the Copa)," also reflected on how the diagnosis has shifted his perspective. "This really rocked me," he shared, adding that the experience forced him to "take stock" of his life and reflect on his legacy, relationships, and impact on others.
Despite the health setback, Manilow has confirmed that he is now cancer-free and continuing his recovery. He noted that he is "getting stronger" and remains focused on regaining his strength while balancing his return to performing.
As previously reported, Manilow postponed a series of shows and his ongoing farewell tour to prioritize his health. His return to the stage is expected to continue as he progresses in recovery.
In addition to his health update, Manilow is also preparing to release his 33rd studio album, What a Time, scheduled for June 5, 2026. The project marks another milestone in his decades-long career and adds to his continued legacy in music.
Despite the challenges, Manilow expressed peace with his journey, stating that the experience ultimately confirmed that he has lived a meaningful and fulfilling life.
