The Wait Is Over
Olivia Rodrigo announced her third studio album on Instagram on April 2 - wiping her account clean the day before to signal something big was coming. The album is called you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love and it arrives June 12, 2026 via Geffen Records.
"No matter how hard I try to write love songs they always come out laced with a little melancholy," Rodrigo wrote in her newsletter. "I am so proud of this record and I can't wait for you to hear it."
The Title Breaks Her Own Pattern - On Purpose
Fans had expected a four-letter title. Sour. Guts. The next one was supposed to be Love. Instead, she went with an entire lowercase sentence - and broke the naming convention that had become one of pop music's most-watched running jokes. The title alone tells you everything about where this record is going.
Sad Love Songs and a Robert Smith Cameo
In a British Vogue interview last month, Rodrigo described the album as full of "sad love songs," adding: "I realized all my favorite romantic love songs were beautiful because they had a tinge of fear or yearning in them."
But the most surprising detail? The Cure's Robert Smith revealed he has been in the studio with her. One track is reportedly inspired by Miranda and Steve's relationship in Sex and the City. The album was produced by Dan Nigro, her creative partner on both Sour and Guts.
The Cover, the Clues, and the Pink Moon
The album cover shows Rodrigo in a pink outfit on a swing - carefree on the outside, melancholy in the title. That contrast is the whole point. In the weeks before the announcement, a cryptic hotline message alluded to April's pink moon, which occurred on April 2 - the same day as the announcement - with the message: "Trust your intuition."
For a girl who writes sad love songs and can't stop, the timing felt exactly right.
