The global phenomenon The Chosen is set to return with its most intense and emotionally charged season yet, as creators officially announced that Season 6 will premiere November 15, 2026, exclusively on Prime Video.
Produced by 5&2 Studios and created by Dallas Jenkins, the six-episode season will focus on the final 24 hours of Jesus Christ's life-leading to the crucifixion. The release will begin with three episodes dropping on launch day, followed by weekly episodes through December 6.
In a notable shift from previous seasons, the Season 6 finale will not debut on streaming. Instead, it will receive a standalone theatrical release in spring 2027, signaling the expanded cinematic ambition behind the series' most pivotal narrative arc.
"The hour has come. Before the sun sets, Jesus of Nazareth will be dead," reads the official description. The season explores the final moments of Jesus through the perspectives of both His followers and those who condemned Him-highlighting the tension between faith, power, and sacrifice.
Jenkins emphasized that the magnitude of the story demanded a new format.
"Everyone knows the basics of this part of the story, but not everyone knows the 'why' of the crucifixion and the extraordinary events of these 24 hours," he said. "We realized this not only deserved a season of television but a standalone full-length theatrical event as well."
Returning to lead the cast is Jonathan Roumie as Jesus, alongside Shahar Isaac (Peter), Paras Patel (Matthew), Elizabeth Tabish (Mary Magdalene), and Luke Dimyan (Judas). The ensemble cast continues to bring depth and humanity to the Gospel narrative, which has resonated with audiences worldwide.
Since its debut, The Chosen has grown into one of the most-watched series globally, surpassing 300 million viewers and redefining faith-based storytelling in the streaming era. Its unique crowdfunding origins and direct-to-audience model have also made it a landmark project in independent media.
Season 6 is expected to be the most theologically and emotionally weighty installment yet, portraying not only the historical events of the crucifixion but also the personal cost borne by those closest to Jesus. Themes of betrayal, sacrifice, justice, and redemption will take center stage as the narrative moves toward the cross.
With the combination of a streaming rollout and a theatrical finale, the upcoming season marks a new chapter for the series-one that seeks to immerse audiences more deeply than ever in the defining moment of the Christian faith.
