Most artists write from what they know. Franni Cash writes from what she survived.
In her own words: "My senior year of high school, my family and I walked out of the religious cult I'd grown up in after some things came to light. And at first... I honestly felt like my whole world had been ripped out from under me. I lost community, identity, certainty, and I never imagined I'd end up here."
That "here" - selling out arenas alongside Brandon Lake as a rising solo artist - would have been unimaginable to the teenager whose entire world was defined by a single, controlling religious environment. Cash described the experience of growing up inside that system: "I remember feeling deep down that something was off. I used to tell people, 'I want to visit other churches and see what God is doing in other parts of the world.'"
Now, a decade after walking free, she's put all of it into a song.
"Raised by Wolves," released March 27, 2026, blends pop, rock, and groove elements and dives directly into Franni's experience escaping a religious cult and reclaiming her own power. Co-written with Andy Cherry, Micah Nichols, Austin Cain, and David Leonard, the song is as direct as Franni has ever been. In her own statement about the track, she said: "It speaks to the pain caused by dangerous leaders who use their intelligence to prey on the vulnerable. I grew up in a cult that was physically controlling, and even more was a spiritually damaging environment. But it was all I ever knew. I've since found another place in my own life - of strong belief, spirituality, honesty, and compassion."
What makes "Raised by Wolves" remarkable is not just the courage it took to write it - it's that the song doesn't end in bitterness. It ends in faith. The very system that used God as a tool of control couldn't stop Franni from finding the real thing. That's the testimony underneath the track. As she later reflected publicly, marking ten years since leaving: she addressed her 17-year-old self and acknowledged the deep confusion and spiritual damage she carried - and how faith, in its truest form, helped rebuild what the cult tore down.
A 2x Grammy-nominated, 3x Dove Award-winning artist, Franni is currently performing on the King of Hearts arena tour with Brandon Lake through May 2nd - debuting new music, including this single, to sold-out crowds each night.
"This music is a piece of my soul that I finally get to hand over to the world," she said. For anyone who has ever felt trapped by religion rather than freed by it, "Raised by Wolves" is proof that the two are not the same thing - and that the Lamb is always stronger than the wolves.
"Raised by Wolves" is available now on all streaming platforms.
