Evangelist Greg Laurie is calling Christians across the nation to prayer following reports of a security scare at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, describing the moment as a sobering reminder of what Scripture calls "perilous times."
According to accounts circulating online, panic erupted during the high-profile Washington gathering when an armed individual allegedly attempted to breach a security checkpoint. Law enforcement quickly responded, and the suspect was taken into custody. One Secret Service officer was reportedly struck but protected by a ballistic vest and later released from the hospital. Key leaders, including Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, were said to be in attendance, along with prominent Christian figures such as Franklin Graham.
In a statement shared after the incident, Laurie reflected on the spiritual weight of the moment, quoting 2 Timothy 3:1-"In the last days, perilous times shall come"-and pointing to the Greek term chalepos to emphasize the intensity of the times. He noted that Scripture does not merely describe inconvenience, but "fierce, dangerous, and overwhelming" conditions.
"These are unsettling days," Laurie wrote, urging believers not to respond with fear but with faith. "This is not a time to panic. This is a time to pray."
Laurie specifically called for prayer for national leaders, pastors, churches, and the protection of innocent lives, while also encouraging boldness in sharing the Gospel. He emphasized that moments like these should drive spiritual urgency rather than anxiety.
The pastor also announced he would address the situation directly in his message titled "No Good Excuses: Why We Say No to God," delivered during Sunday services and streamed online through Harvest Christian Fellowship's Harvest At Home platform.
While details surrounding the reported incident continue to emerge, Laurie's message has already resonated with many, framing the moment not just as a national concern but as a spiritual call to renewed prayer and faith.
