Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham is opening up about a deeply personal faith milestone after re-signing with the WNBA team. The veteran guard recently shared that she was baptized earlier this month at Christ's Church of the Valley in Phoenix, Arizona, describing the moment as an adult recommitment of her faith. Cunningham said she had been baptized as a child, but felt a "tug" on her heart to make the decision again on her own terms.

"I got baptized when I was little, but I was feeling a tug on my heart to do it on my terms as an adult! Such a fun, amazing day. Thank you, Jesus," Cunningham wrote.

Speaking at a press conference, the 29-year-old called the baptism "one of the better things" she has done in her life.

"I've always been a faithful person, but I just feel like now it's my own decision," Cunningham said.

The baptism comes during a major season of transition for Cunningham, who recently signed a one-year contract with the Indiana Fever after recovering from a knee injury. While her contract comments sparked discussion online, Cunningham later clarified that her frustration was not about money, but about wanting long-term stability with a team and community she has grown to love.

"I just wanted more years because I love it here," she explained, adding that she hopes to build a home and future in Indiana.

For Cunningham, the moment marks more than a basketball update. It reflects a renewed sense of faith, gratitude, and purpose as she enters the next chapter of her WNBA career.
