The Grammy winner has now confirmed a diagnosis, with two more tour dates moved as she focuses on recovery.
LeAnn Rimes has given fans a fuller picture of what she has been battling - and it is more serious than initially shared.
Following the announcement earlier this week that she was forced to cancel her Spokane and Seattle shows due to severe illness, the Grammy-winning country singer confirmed on Friday, May 1, that the illness is COVID-19, which has since progressed into severe laryngitis. A visit to her doctor for a scope of her vocal cords confirmed the diagnosis.
"After a diagnosis of COVID leading to severe laryngitis, I'm so sorry to have to reschedule next week's shows," Rimes wrote in her Instagram Story. "A visit to my doctor for a scope of my vocal cords has confirmed the news and I wanted to tell you as soon as I could."
Two additional shows have now been affected. Her performances scheduled for May 8 in Waukegan, Illinois, and May 9 in Wilmington, Ohio - both part of her ongoing 30 Years of Blue tour - have been moved to November 6 and November 7, respectively. All previously purchased tickets will be honored at the new dates, and refunds are available for those unable to attend.
"It breaks my heart, having to reschedule these shows," she told fans. "There is no place I would rather be next week than celebrating with all of you. However, this is sadly out of my hands until I get this under control."
The 30 Years of Blue tour marks three decades since Rimes burst onto the music scene as a teenager with her breakthrough album Blue - one of the most celebrated debuts in country music history. The health setback is a difficult interruption to what has been a milestone celebration of her career and her voice.
Rimes has made no indication of further disruptions to the rest of her tour schedule and remains focused on recovery. Her message to fans closed warmly, noting she is already looking forward to being back on stage soon.
For those who have followed LeAnn Rimes over the years, her transparency in moments like this is familiar and welcome. She has never been one to hide the hard seasons - and that honesty is part of what makes her connection with her audience so lasting. Wishing her a full and speedy recovery, and keeping her in prayer as her voice and body heal.
