Today is May 4, 2026 - and Katherine Esther Jackson is 96 years old.

There is no grand celebration announced. No televised tribute. Just another birthday for a woman who has outlived nearly everything the world threw at her - and is still standing.

For those who read our earlier piece on Katherine's life and faith, this is the follow-up you have been waiting for.

The Biopic Brought Her Back Into the Conversation

When the Michael biopic opened in theaters on April 24, 2026, it did something no documentary or tribute concert had managed in 17 years - it introduced Katherine Jackson to a new generation. Actress Nia Long portrays Katherine in the film, which stars her grandson Jaafar Jackson in the title role.

The film arrived with a divided critical response but an overwhelming audience reaction. And at the center of it all - quietly, as always - was Katherine. Producer Graham King visited her at home before the release, showed her Jaafar in full hair and makeup, and watched her weep. She said four words: "That's Michael."

That moment, more than any box office number, told audiences everything they needed to know about who this woman is.

The Birthday the Family Is Marking Today

Weeks before today, La Toya Jackson posted a video of the two of them attending church together, writing: "This lovely lady will be 96 on May 4th. A kind soul that radiates love. An inspiration to us all!"

In the video, Katherine appeared in a wheelchair, dressed in her Sunday best - composed, smiling, and present.

She also shares today's birthday with her son Jackie Jackson. Last year, Janet Jackson marked the occasion with words that captured what the whole family feels: "You are a living testament to grace, strength, and love. You are a gift beyond measure, and my soul is forever grateful for you."

96 Years. Still Faithful. Still Here.

Katherine Esther Jackson was born May 4, 1930 - the matriarch of the Jackson family of entertainers and the woman Michael dedicated Thriller to. She is a mother of 10, grandmother to 27, and has outlived two of her children - Michael in 2009 and Tito in 2024.

She remains a practicing member of her faith. She lives quietly, far from the spotlight. And while the world spent years arguing over Michael Jackson's legacy, Katherine never wavered - not as a mother, not as a believer, not as the woman who first heard her son sing and knew something extraordinary was happening.

In Michael's own words, written years before his death: "The lessons she taught us were invaluable. Kindness, love, and consideration for other people headed her list."

The biopic put her name back in the headlines. But Katherine Jackson never needed a film to make her story matter.

It has always mattered.

Happy 96th birthday, Mrs. Jackson.
