Faith-based drama Elijah Peel is gaining momentum ahead of its theatrical release, with new details emerging about the deeply personal story behind the film.
Elijah Peel follows a famous rock musician whose life unravels through addiction, excess, and emotional collapse before a heart attack forces him into rehabilitation and reflection. During recovery, he forms an unlikely friendship with a terminally ill young girl whose faith and hope begin reshaping his understanding of purpose, redemption, and healing.
But according to a new feature from The Christian Post, the film's themes are rooted in the real-life experiences of writer and producer Kevin Sepe. Sepe revealed that after years of addiction and multiple near-death experiences, he eventually found sobriety and embraced Christianity - a transformation that became the emotional foundation for the movie.
"When you've been delivered spiritually and physically, your whole existence becomes about how you give that back," Sepe told the outlet during an interview at the National Religious Broadcasters Convention.
Unlike many addiction-centered dramas that focus primarily on destruction, Sepe said Elijah Peel intentionally emphasizes restoration, grace, and second chances. The film incorporates moments of "divine intervention" and explores how unexpected people can become instruments of healing in someone's darkest season.
Actor Kevin Sorbo also stars in the project as Elijah's manager, while Robert Malcolm Cumming plays the lead role of Elijah. Young actress Evelyn Grace Kite portrays Jessica, the terminally ill child whose faith becomes central to the story's emotional and spiritual arc.
The movie was filmed in and around Memphis, Tennessee, and features an original soundtrack blending rock, soul, and faith-driven themes that mirror Elijah's inner transformation.
The film has already earned recognition on the Christian film festival circuit, reportedly winning Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Leading Actress at the International Christian Film Festival.
Elijah Peel is scheduled for an exclusive theatrical release across North America on August 14 through eKKL Entertainment.
